    Thanks Ernest. This really is a magical time. My wife and I bought a new house on the island of Roatan, Honduras. It's a beautiful place with some incredible views from the porch and a lot of terrific people as neighbors. We plan on staying there for a month or so to see if we want to live there. We see a lot of interesting opportunities there so who knows?
    I've always admired your decision to have a lifestyle that you control and at the same time, make good money at. Now that I have a bit of money behind me, I plan on doing that in the next phase of my life.

    I took your advice and had my new sales rep come into the office in person this afternoon for a frank discussion on the offer process. She gave a very clear accounting of her actions, response and follow up. She was very apologetic and sincere about any confusion of lack of follow through on her part. She told me frankly that she had been expecting my offer as late as Tuesday morning and after I sent her my email regarding her lack of response she realized that she had already received my offer. I reviewed the timeline and her actions. She did contact me after she received and reviewed the offer letter.
    Today I discussed this with my new sales rep and she has accepted the offer, is confident/ready to get started and she fully understands our concerns.
    Thank you for all your assistance, your sound advice and best of all your tremendous good humor which brightened my day and helped me to clarify my thoughts on this situation.

    4. The highest sales for March/April, in the history of the company.
    5. 83 times we made our weekly sales goals as a team!
    6. Two divisions of our company broke sales records from sales efforts in the first quarter.

    I drove downtown and met with my direct manager today. He was surprised when I said I was coming forward to get an early buyout, but once the shock wore off, he was extremely supportive. He said that if this is something I have been thinking about, and I really wanted it, that he would ask the Sr. VP to support my application. There is still no guarantee, but I do feel very positive about the conversation. So, I went upstairs and had a brief conversation with our Director of HR, and I submitted my application. She was a little shocked as well, but also supportive.
    Felt pretty crazy, but good. I know I've made the right decision by carefully considering this opportunity and taking the important first step toward making it a reality. THANK YOU for all your help & support. If I have you in my corner, I know I'll be in good shape no matter what comes of all this.

    I'm frankly relieved to learn from you that I really am stressed, and not just "losing it". It seems that I thrive on pressure, but stress is very different from pressure…stress is harmful! I have been questioning myself for several months now, which is very unlike me, and I keep telling myself that I will work through it. And, actually, I am. In the past three weeks I have been able to complete four large projects that were pending and were very time consuming. These were not things that an Executive Assistant could handle, but a good one could offer assistance.
    I'm turning over a new leaf today…thanks to you. I am going to implement the suggestions you made during our coaching call today, for hiring a new assistant, and I'm confident that I will find someone who can help lighten my load.

    Here is a quick update of the sales promotion and how it's going thus far.
    1. It was a great week---with just over $69,000 in sales for the week.
    2. We have had three sales reps averaging over $10,000 a week for the past three weeks.
    3. We had one sales rep begging to find out what she could do to get back on the top of the sales contest chart again. She won for January and told me has to win again in February. So I expect she will come up with some good sales this week to help her get back onthe top.
    4. I had a three reps tell me they needed another way to get points as they are falling behind on the sales contest.
    Things are rocking I am proud to let you know it's going well. And thanks for your help designing our sales contest! It's working.

    I am most excited because we just sold a new client that will bring $300,000 in revenue this year! Yea!!!
    Also, I sent you the sales binder information that I am working on. I put it together over the weekend for my meeting. And I also had the tabs for case studies, testimonials and checklists. It was great, every question they had, I had something in the binder to back up my answer. They loved it. I would not have had all of this ammunition if you had not recommended it. So, now I am excited about making our sales presentation binder the best it has ever been. I can't wait to get your feedback.

    If I had a train whistle I would blast it three times!!! Thanks for asking about the contest-it went great!
    I went to a local specialty chocolate shop and bought an individually
    wrapped chocolate truffle for every staff member. We placed the
    truffles in brightly colored gift bags along with an envelope that
    contained the attached prize sheet along with the contest rules and
    the spreadsheet showing how the point system would work. We also decided to give the ultimate prize away to a non-sales employee by having the winning sales person draw a name from a hat.
    We kicked off the promotion on Monday with the sales team and Tuesday
    with the rest of our staff.
    Everyone quickly devoured the treat-they enjoyed the truffle as well.
    After the initial presentation a few of the racehorses...er sales
    staff, were trying to find loopholes in the system, when one team
    member spoke up and said "Hey, personally I'm glad we are given a
    chance to win this great prize. Thank you for the opportunity." I
    couldn't have said it better myself.

    The trip to Florida was good, but it was not as easy to make as many contacts as I would have liked. So, I was able to talk to 6-7 potential employers, but I wanted more.
    Of greater significance were the comments that I had during my two hour long interview. They specifically said that my resume was not like any others that they had seen. They said "everyone else simply sends in what they did, no one said (other than mine) what they accomplished."
    To that end, I give you many kudos and thanks. It really helped to set me apart, and I know it will going forward.

    We want to share our good news about an alliance for us that has happened in the last few weeks.
    Through some business relationships that we have been nurturing over the past year, we have made an alliance with the PBS (Public Broadcasting System) Series. We are going to be featured in this series that will air after the first of the year. This series will be broadcast over 349 national PBS stations and some of the clips will be played on MSNBC, CNN, and FOX.
    When we were contacted by the producers at PBS we were told that we could be a part of the series for a very large sum of grant money. As you know, we did not have such an amount and you asked us the question, "Who do you know that would be willing to pay this amount of money?" Through an alliance we already had in place with a corporate client…everything fell into place within 48 hours!
    So we will start filming in the fall and be on the tube sometime after the first of the year!

    Just a quick note to let you know that your candidate and I finally connected. I did let him know that you have helped me completely rework my hiring process by helping me establish my criteria for positions, making recruiting an ongoing campaign, teaching me how to read a resume, teaching me how to interview more skillfully, establishing a testing protocol and helping me with qualitative analysis of candidates. I think he was moved by this.
    Additionally, I discussed our ongoing coaching relationship and the tangible benefits I receive from that part of our work together. Specifically, that I have grown as a coach and leader, my people have grown as a direct result of your coaching, and that an underperforming salesperson has/will double his sales this year. I believe he was moved by this as well.
    I probably covered a few other points but this was the essence of our call. I hope I was helpful to you both.

    Wonderful, and severely jet lagged. We have been here in France for three days, had three invitations to dinner, and are just about settled in our friend's two bedroom 'gite' apartment on her beautiful country property. My husband and our cat both survived the 30 hour journey and I'm just looking forward to getting my head and body back in the same place.
    My office is gorgeous, looking out on rolling hills and fields with the scent of honey suckle and roses wafting in the window. Very inspirational for me to keep focused and courageous and keep growing my young business.

    Years ago Paul…I read a book on selling that revolutionized my work here.     I thought I would drop you a note about the call-in we had on Tuesday, 2-24-04. Although I have very mixed feelings about staff/sales meetings in general, and after hosting, running and participating in literally thousands of these wasted minutes, hours and days on a variety of topics and arenas, I must tell you that our meeting with Ernest on Tuesday was nothing short of fabulous. This was by far, the best meeting I have ever had with our company. I would strongly encourage you to have Ernest replicate the magic he performed for Debbie and I to all current and potential sales personnel. It is invaluable as a training aid and the best "On Point" scenario that could have been delivered to me.
    Mike, the entire presentation, along with the motivation and steps he illustrated in preparation, resulted in a sales presentation that left me speechless and not a question in my mind. His dialog and his use of common sense and addressing ALL the issues left me with wanting to immediately jump on board. Normally, when ideas and potential strategies are discussed, I am always left with many questions bouncing around my brain that were not addressed or occurred as a result of the presentation. When Ernest had finished, I had no questions whatsoever, and more importantly, I immediately saw the application for several large clients and prospects.
    Ernest went through his four sales points and when our sales meeting was over, I immediately set out to do the homework and have the answers I will need to organize and prepare my sales presentation for my top prospects, as well as others. Please pass on my sincere appreciation to Ernest.

    Hi Ernest -
    I just wanted to thank you again (I think of our coaching collaboration each time I get a significant career boost!) for helping me rise to a 'new level' a few years (?) ago. You helped negotiate my starting salary (with benefits) to $100K from a (what I thought was a shaky) position as a consultant. From that position I was hired away by SAIC to work on site with our client NCI. Last week's review brought me a generous (for these times!) additional 4.25% raise and I now have a salary of $111.5K with full benefits, working in a stimulating job among fascinating and brilliant people, with reasonable hours that let me spend the time I want (or almost) with my wonderful wife and son! Frankly, when I told friends I was paying a coach such and such to help my career they doubted my wisdom but as you can see, you were a great investment!

    My Company's Independence Day
    Ernest,
    I was driving to lunch today thinking about my licensing situation and my company's future. As we've discussed I'm hesitant to invest a lot more money into the business without a new fee arrangement. Ideally I'd like to break away from my licensing agreement entirely.
    I want to thank you for all the time and effort you expended in helping to put this deal together. The extra early morning calls, talking with my licensor, last minute emails and even tracking me down in Walmart. As you know there many times I was extremely frustrated, and questioned why we were moving so slowly. But you continued to keep me upbeat and always had a new plan of attack.
    As you probably guessed the negotiating continued right up until the deal was signed, however the major battles were already won and well documented. We both knew that the deal wouldn't be completed until I had a signed copy in my hand. I'm not sure how much money you saved me with your negotiating techniques, but I would guess it's between $350,000 to $500,000.
    We still have many more issues to deal with in St. Louis, some good and some not so good. But for now I'm going to sit back and enjoy our accomplishment.

    I didn't want another day to go by without telling you the amazing results of our "walls that sell". Without a doubt this has been the best sales tool I have ever implemented. Everyone from the receptionist to the delivery man checks out our daily progress. Everyone in the office checks the vacant apartment list and celebrates when it reaches zero. The salespeople can't wait to write their name on the board with their own special color after each sale. The entire office is now anxiously waiting for me to compute and post last month's sales percentages. The sales boards have helped bring the entire office together towards our common goals.
